Lake Malawi Sites

Masimbwe
This has awesome rock formations, and swim-throughs. The rocky outcrop is 2kms offshore and is widely regarded as one of the best dives in the country.

We enter on top of a pinnacle at 8m which as a sheer wall drop-off to 22m where there is another vertical wall down to 45m. This site is  renowned for the Catfish - some as large as 5ft that swim within inches  of the exit points - and the divers. This is also a site where you are  likely to see many of the worlds' finest tropical fish as well as curious  otters (keep looking over your shoulder) and stunning pairs of fish  eagles.

One of the most stunning sights that you will see here are the Mouth Breeders - an evolutionary miracle - Dad swallows the babies (lots of little fry's) if he feels that they are in danger, then when the danger  has passed he spits them all out again! This fish is utterly unique to Lake Malawi and many believe they are literally found in only one particular dive site off the Island.

Makulawe 1
Northern tip of the Island, it's also known as Big Boulders.

It's a 6km boat ride up the coastline - there is a mythical serpent  that lives in the channel between Likoma and Chizumulu. You will need  to drop in on the witch doctor to get Ju-Ju to ward him off and keep  you safe!

Makulawe 2
This is an underwater mountain just 1km off the Northern tip of the Island.  Depending on the level of the lake the tip is either 50cm above the water or 2m below the surface.

It's a beautiful vista to hang out in the blue and see the climbing mountain.  Between dives we recommend you have a picnic on Mlonga Beach; this is a beautiful little cove in a forest reserve.
